John Gross is the owner/pharmacist of J Gross Pharmacy Group.  He and his wife Lisa graduated from Clare High School in 1986.  They currently live in Farwell, Michigan and have four children and eight grandchildren. John is a 1992 graduate of Ferris State University, College of Pharmacy.  After working at big box stores and chain pharmacies for twelve years, John decided to open his own local, independent pharmacy in 2004. Gateway Pharmacy of Clare was the first of three independent pharmacies that John started from scratch in Clare County, Michigan with Eagle Pharmacy of Farwell opening in 2011 and Harrison Family Pharmacy in 2015.  His stores comprise 3 of the 7 total pharmacies in the county and are the only local, independent pharmacies in Clare County.  John also owns two pharmacies in Genesee County having purchased Flint Family Pharmacy in 2019 and Swartz Creek Pharmacy in 2020. His five stores comprise the J Gross Pharmacy Group.
John is an active community member serving as treasurer on the local school board in Farwell and as clerk in his local church in Clare, and through his support of multiple organizations and charities within Clare County.  John is championing independent pharmacy through his advocacy efforts in Lansing and Washington DC and through serving on multiple pharmacy boards and committees at the state and national level. John is the Executive Director and founder of the Michigan Independent Pharmacy Association (MIPA), and currently serves on the National Community Pharmacy Association (NCPA) State Legislation Committee, and the Michigan Pharmacy Association (MPA) Government Affairs Committee.
Because of John’s pharmacy advocacy efforts, he was awarded the MPA Community Pharmacist of the Year Award in 2020 and the American Pharmacies Advocacy Leadership Award in 2021 and 2022. Indeed, John is known as a leader and pharmacy advocate among his peers in Michigan and nationally.
